Peptide Therapy

In Australia as in most countries peptides are a prescription only medicine that can only be prescribed by a registered Medical Doctor and manufactured by a registered compounding pharmacy. MasterDerm Clinic’s compound pharmacist assures peptide sterility, potency and longevity on all injectable and transdermal peptide products.

Peptides Explained

Peptides occur naturally in every cell of every living thing. They have a number of functions, including the production of enzymes to help the body break down foreign substances, and create antibiotics for your immune system and hormones that control everything from growth to sexual development. Without peptides, life would not be possible.

To understand what a peptide is, one needs to have a basic understanding of protein structure. Protein is made up of different amino acids, much like words are made up of different letters. The difference between peptides and proteins is essentially one of size. Peptides are typically classified as being made up of less than 50 amino acids, whereas protein can contain anywhere from 50 to several thousand amino acids.

A peptide is an amino chain responsible for signalling different responses in the body. These amino chains already exist in the body and that is the good thing about peptides because it is completely natural. There are different classes of peptides according to the number of different sequences. Certain sequences are considered a protein such as Human Growth Hormone (HGH). Insulin is also an amino sequence considered a protein as well and the list continues.

Background of Peptide History

Boosted by the understanding of the genetics of disease, peptide drugs seemed to be the new standard for drug discovery. The advantages they can offer as drugs such as specificity, potency, and low toxicity are well-known, but they used to stumble over practical hurdles such as poor stability, short half-life, and being readily digested by protein-eating enzymes in the body. However, recent technological advances overcome these hurdles.
